Spring 2022 Travel Plans

When I was sitting on the plane back in October preparing to take off from the Rome airport to head back home I remember thinking to myself “I have to find a way to do this more often”.

And the “This” I was referring to IS travel.

Of course, I got home and the news about “Omicron” broke in the US not long thereafter. And I thought for a moment about how this new strain of the COVID-19 virus might impact travel but I decided not to let it stop me from planning some spring trips.

One of the reasons I decided to pack up and move abroad and pursue UnEmployable (Self-employed) Relocation independent living Is because I want to be able to travel on my own schedule whenever I want.

Having to ask someone permission to take a week off here and there is not something I am interested in ever doing again especially since most work can be performed from almost anywhere if you have a Wi-Fi connection.

I have decided that at least twice a year I will travel abroad and work from wherever I happen to land. I still have to earn a living but why can’t I do that from a beach house in Portugal?

I monitor plane ticket prices on a regular basis and in a separate post, I’ll share a little bit more insight into what I do and how I do it.

But I was able to find some pretty reasonable prices for spring and decided to book them early.

So here is my spring travel itinerary for 2022 (drum roll):

I will be visiting Lisbon, Sintra, Porto, and Algarve in Portugal; Florence Italy (my favorite place in the world); and Turkey – Istanbul, and Antalya to be exact. I will also spend time on the island of Tobago the place where both my parents were born.

Some of these destinations are I’ve visited before but wanted to return – Istanbul, Turkey, and many are new and first-time visit – Portugal and Antalya Turkey. And others are sentimental loves to which I will always return – Florence and Tobago, West Indies. Several I had previously booked and had to cancel due to COVID-19: Tobago and Portugal.

While I’ve been to Tobago many many times, there are many things I have not yet done and places I have not yet visited (Rainforest, Waterfalls, Speyside) that I have big plans to rediscover the island I’ve been visiting since I was nine years old.

I’ve also never been to Florence in the early Spring. I’m wondering what she’s like during one of my most favorite times of the year. I guess I will find out!

I also have plans for summer so stay tuned for that!

I will share my travel adventures on my social media page so if you’re not following me there you should. You can find my social media links at the end of this blog post.

I love sharing HR tips that help people, and especially black women better navigate the workplace and free themselves from Discriminatory and Hostile Work Environments on their own terms. I love being able to connect BlackWomen Coaches from all over the world, with people who need their help and support.

But the activity that makes me happiest, I’ve come to realize, is Travel.

Travel feeds my soul.

Visiting a new place and meeting new people and learning about their culture and norms confirms my belief in the inherent goodness of human beings.

So one of the things I’m determined to do more of going forward is pursuing my joy of travel. While I may have to work a bit while I do it I still get to do it on my terms and my schedule and what could be better than that?

I hope you enjoy going along with me on some of these adventures.

If there are specific places and things you think I should make sure I see and do while traveling this Spring, please don’t hesitate to drop them in the comments.
