Fall/Winter 2025 Trends I Love: Chic & Wearable Style for Women Over 50

ree

Let’s be clear—Fall is fashion’s main character. But you won’t see me chasing every trend just because it’s on a runway or because someone half my age says it’s “in.” At 50+, I dress for my life. I define style on my own terms.

Also—this is not a coat-focused post. I live in central Mexico, where fall/winter days are mild but nights can dip into the 30s and 40s. I keep my heavy coats in the U.S. and rely on jackets, sweaters, cardigans, and layering to stay warm and stylish here.

This season, I’m shopping my closet, curating what works for me, and staying in alignment with trends without letting them control me. Let me show you how to do the same.

🍁 What’s Trending for Fall/Winter 2025 that I Love?

Source: Harpers Bazaar

Before I show you how I’m wearing it all, here’s a quick snapshot of what’s hot this season:

Colors & Prints

  • Chocolate brown

  • Red (scarlet to wine)

  • Jewel tones: turquoise, purple, emerald

  • Leopard, zebra, and snake prints

  • Plaid and houndstooth patterns

🧵 Textures & Fabrics

  • Velvet

  • Lace

  • Suede

  • Leather (especially brown, croc, and python textures)

  • Bouclé and plush knits

  • Embellished denim

  • Dressed-up or embellished sweatshirts

  • Funnel neck and high-neck turtleneck tops and bodysuits

👜 Accessories I love

ree

  • Real leather belts

  • Slouchy/squishy bags

  • Top-handle bags

  • Bucket bags

  • Statement belts in leather and animal print

👢 Shoes

  • Loafers

  • Tall boots (croc, leopard, or python)

  • Square-toe boots

  • Suede boots and booties

The key is not to wear everything on this list—it’s to choose what makes sense for your body, your closet, and your lifestyle.

Now, here’s how I’m doing just that.

1. Shop Your Closet First: Fall Fashion Over 50

Before you even think about adding to cart, take a good look at what’s already in your wardrobe—you probably own more trends than you realize. Leopard? Red? Suede? Velvet? Animal prints? They’re all having a moment, and chances are, they’re already in your closet.

This season, I’m reaching for pieces I already love: my Marcella NYC Marcy funnel neck top in Chestnut and Black, my velvet blazers—one in leopard print and one in classic black, and my Urban Revivo Ruffle Hem Oversized Shirt, which is so versatile I can wear it as both a dress and a top. It perfectly fits the Boho chic aesthetic that’s still going strong this season.

2. Accessorize Strategically—Belts That Elevate Any Fall Look

ree

Belts are one of the biggest style boosters this season. They make old outfits feel new and more put-together.

I picked up a few real leather belts from Madewell on sale in Fall 2024, and they’re still perfect. I don’t do faux—get real leather. It doesn’t have to be designer, just durable.

🛍 BUY THE LOOK: My favorite belts right now

3. Trousers Are Trending (But I’m Still Wearing My Favorite Jeans)

Menswear-inspired trousers, culottes, and even jorts are back—but that doesn’t mean you have to give up your denim.

ree
I’ll also be wearing jorts, gauchos, and culottes with tall boots and sweaters—on trend and practical.

🛍 BUY THE LOOK: My favorite jorts right now

4. Funnel Necks + Cardigans: Layering Trends for Fall/Winter 2025

Funnel and high-neck tops are in (v-necks are out), and they’re great for layering.

I’ve had a 3-pack of funnel neck bodysuits from Amazon for over a year. I layer them under cardigans, sweaters, or jackets for easy polish.

And let’s not forget cardigans—they’re everywhere this season, but I’ve always kept them in my rotation.

I throw cardigans over bodysuits and turtlenecks with everything from jeans to jorts to gauchos.

5. Shoes: What’s In vs. What I’m Wearing

👠 What’s On Trend:

  • Ballet flats with socks

  • Slouchy boots

  • Square-toe boots

  • Western boots

  • Loafers (especially chunky)

  • Slim-profile sneakers

  • Embellished shoes

  • Tall boots in croc/leopard/snake

👢 What I’m Wearing:

I don’t follow trends blindly—I follow what makes sense for my life.
  • Leopard loafers

  • Lug-sole Chelsea boots

  • Suede ankle boots

  • Olive green loafer boots (not trendy—just a favorite)

  • Tall boots in croc print

🛍 BUY THE LOOK: Doc Marten Corran boots

6. Blazers: The Easiest Way to Elevate Fall Style for Women Over 50

Blazers are the MVP of Fall season. They instantly elevate a look—and let you lean into a trend without doing the most. If you’re only going to do one trend this season—make it a structured blazer. They elevate everything.

ree

I’ll be styling:
  • 🐆 My J.Crew leopard blazer

  • 🖤 My black velvet blazer (grabbed on sale last year)

  • 🤎 My brown houndstooth plaid blazer—it blends multiple trending tones beautifully

ree

Wear them over funnel neck tops, lace bodysuits, or turtlenecks for effortless sophistication.

🛍 BUY THE LOOK: My favorite blazers

7. Chocolate Brown Is Everything Right Now

ree

Every version of brown—especially chocolate—is on trend. But I’ve always loved it.

I’ll be wearing

Brown looks rich and modern when paired with red, beige, black, navy, or orange.

8. Embellished & Printed Denim is the Statement

Denim is going extra this fall—and I love it.

I’m styling:
  • 🐍 Python print denim jeans from Zara

  • 💎 Embellished jeans from Free People (paired with a red sweater!)

  • 🐆 Wide-leg leopard print denim from Zara (black/beige)

9. Texture Is the Trend: Lace, Velvet, Boho & Elevated Sweatshirts

ree
I’ll be wearing graphic and elevated sweatshirts this season. I’ll wear mine with leather shorts + tights for an edgy but grown and wearable fall vibe.

🛍 BUY THE LOOK: Favorite sweatshirts

10. The Only Trend That Matters: Yours

Trends are suggestions—not mandates. I wear what flatters me, feels good, and fits my life. That’s style.

I’m not doing Western, power shoulders, ski-core, or coastal prep. But I’m ALL IN on leopard, red, brown, suede, velvet, lace, and structured comfort.
