As you know it is also my favorite city in the world! But that’s not the point (smile). The fact is that for so many reasons, Florence be your first stop in Italy. In this blog post, I will share 6 reasons why Florence should be the first city you visit in Italy – NOT Rome.

Unfortunately, as a Black person traveling how I am treated is something I have to think about. Frankly, I have experienced overt racism in Rome, and many travelers of color share stories all over social media about negative experiences in Rome and other parts of Northern Italy. To date, I can honestly say that I have never felt unwelcome in Florence and so for me, that is a very important reason to start your exploration of Italy in Florence.
